Should Beeper Be Banned

In New York public school, you could see many students carrying a beeper to school, even though school doesn’t allow it. Students like to own a beeper, it just like a ornament for them. When it become more popular, some educators being more worried. They are afraid it will cause many problems. Should beepers be banned in school? Some people say yes, some people say no. I think that beeper is not necessary to students in school time.

Many students carry beepers because their parents want them to. Parents want to be able to reach their children easily in an emergency. Before beepers, if there was an emergency, parents could call school, and contact their children easily. Right now, parents still can call school for emergency, and it is quicker. Since most school don’t have pay phone, students have to go to guidance consoler for a phone call. Also, it is not always emergency, sometimes just some friends call it for fun. It will make noise, and make students not concentrate on studying. Because they can not call the person back, they might cut the classes or think about it all day. Either way it is not good for them.

Students may also carry a beeper to show off. Teenagers want to have everything that people around them own. They feel they lose their faces when they don’t have things that everybody has. When people really want to get something, they don’t care what way they must to get it, aspecially teenagers. Beepers are very expensive, as full time students, we can not afford it. Therefore, many teenagers may rub to reach their aim. Some students can afford it because they the part-time jobs, but, it still is too lensure for a student. We do not make money easily, and how can we just waste money like that. Our responsibility is to study, all competitions between us should only be about studying, not for luxury things like beepers.

To ban beepers in school also can make school safer by reducing the drug and gang problem. Sometimes it is associated with drug deals and gang activity, and school officers may not know. It is a very serious problem. School have all responsibility to students while in school time. We have to prevent any possible incident caused by anything.

Now you know beeper is not necessary to students. Parents, beeper is not the best way for you to reach your child. Instead, letting them carry beeper in school will distract them from learning, and other problems. I hope students can understand it, and not go against school rule to carry beepers. However, we don’t want to see the school look like a market, everybody is busy checking their beeper.
